Why I Started NiiNu

Why I Started NiiNu

My love for clothing began with the moment of encountering a piece I truly loved. That quiet excitement, the slight flutter in my chest — a feeling that can’t quite be put into words.

Holding it in my hands, standing in front of a mirror, and stepping outside while wearing it.

That spark — as if my heart is briefly transported somewhere else.

NiiNu was born from the desire to create those moments.

I love simple, comfortable clothing too. I wear it often, and I understand how important it is in everyday life.

Still, when I asked myself why I choose to make clothes by hand, I arrived at a clear answer: I want to create things that genuinely move me.

Not mass-produced. Not driven by efficiency. But designs I truly love, and designs I feel compelled to make with my own hands.

Even if it takes time. Even if it isn’t easy. I choose to make clothing that carries emotion.

This is the foundation of NiiNu.

At design markets and exhibitions, one of the pieces people speak to me about most is the ribbon-back hanten and haori.

Over time, it naturally became NiiNu’s signature.

To be honest, making them is never easy. (Not at all.)

But I love this design deeply. It receives the most messages on Instagram, and seeing how much joy it brings to others reminds me why I started.

It’s a piece I want to keep making — for a long time to come.

NiiNu is not a brand that ends with clothing alone.

It values the emotions born through wearing, the subtle shifts in how you feel, and the quiet moments when something inside you moves.

I hope that when you encounter a NiiNu piece, and step outside wearing it, that day feels just a little more special.

From a single piece of fabric, a story begins.

And I will continue to weave those stories, carefully.
