The Signature Behind the Ribbon

The Signature Behind the Ribbon

One of the signature details of NiiNu is the back frill ribbon.

This element is inspired by the obi of traditional Japanese kimono.

Kimono obi are not simply functional.
There are many different ways of tying them, each with their own balance and form.
They are part of a long cultural tradition, carrying more than just visual beauty.

I have always been drawn to obi styles with a slight diagonal movement.
There is a softness in that subtle shift that I find particularly beautiful.

When I began developing NiiNu, I didn’t want to recreate traditional forms directly.
Instead, I wanted to reinterpret that impression in my own way.

The back ribbon became a way to express that —
a quiet reference rather than a direct translation.

It is now one of the signatures of NiiNu.
